Being social

One thing I am (slowly) starting to learn is that, as being Jo becomes more and more normal, so you start to realise that you don’t have to overdo things and that there’s a time and a place for things.

What prompted this revelation? Well, I spent a lovely evening with friends last night. Just a small bunch of us (4 in total) at home, having a natter and watching telly, then ordered a curry to be delivered and then sat round the table nomming on the food and talking some more. It was really nice. But because it was just a ‘staying in’ night, neither of the cis girls were wearing nail varnish, and had minimal make-up on (they still looked great, mind!). I, on the other hand, had done my nail varnish, and had rushed it, and was late to arrive as a result and actually would have been on time if I hadn’t done it. And I realised that in that context, it simply hadn’t been necessary to do my nails, just like the other girls hadn’t. In fact, I probably looked a bit silly for being late due to doing my nails.

(Edit: I’ve just realised that one of the girls had done her toenails. Oops. Well, my main point still stands; I was a silly moo for being late due to doing my nails, when I didn’t need to do them)

  1. Sounds like a perfect evening, when being with friends is more important than how you look…. when you just get to be yourself which is who they came to be with 🙂 Wish I was closer! xx

  2. The other trick is to buy a good clear or barely there varnish which looks good with just one coat, which drys in seconds.
My last minute polish is a pale pale gold and I can do it and walk out the door and it’s dry by the time I hit the car!

  3. Yes, I have a “Matte Nail Envy” by OPI that I wear a lot. I should have put that on rather than arsing around with a colour. Especially when I chose a Maybelline sparkly red that I always have problems with anyway. Silly me!
